Heads up! BRAIN FRAME, the bimonthly performative comix reading from Chicago, is nearing the end of its three-year run. There are four shows left in the regular series and there are less than five open spots in these shows. If you’ve been sitting on an idea or holding out in hopes of participating, now is the time to make yourself heard.
BRAIN FRAME is a place for alternative comics and zine artists, or anyone else interested in the same, to interpret their work in front of an open-minded audience, using music, props, costumes, puppets, noise, lectures, projections, animations, or anything else impossible to reproduce on the printed page. The Chicago Tribune calls it a “Mildly loopy, wildly eclectic and passionately adored comics-and-performance whatchamacallit/updated ’60s freak out/cartooning-community rallying point” and the Chicago Reader once wrote that ”Brain Frame is strange. You will find yourself unexpectedly aroused, moved, disgusted, amused, and intrigued by all manner of creative things happening on stage.”
Artists who submit may be placed on a waiting list or invited to participate in related shows. If you are not located in Chicago but still want to apply, go ahead! BRAIN FRAME has happened in Brooklyn and Detroit and may very well come to your area. Send an email detailing your idea and including samples of your work to brainframecomix [at] gmail [dot] com.
